Tommyknocker

Knockers are cave fairies in Welsh and Cornish mythology. They are said to be very strong and stout beings who look like weathered, rugged older men. They almost always have beards or mustaches, and are dressed in the styles of Celtic tribal times, or early medieval times. Some modern sightings of them claim they wear nothing but pants or overalls and Victorian style beards, while their partner may look tribal British. Knockers have green or grey skin, gentle eyes, and a normally proportionate body except for overly short legs and child-sized feet. Some Knockers may look like totally different ethnic groups than British, but they always have green or grey skin, grizzled beards, and are dressed in attire from ancient times. Their footsteps are silent or sound like children running, while their burly man hands may drag the ground. They always knock on the cavern walls of the mines, which is why they are called 'knockers' or Tommyknockers.

Knockers are *very* intelligent, the greatest miners of all fairies, and can use one small crack in a wall to shatter a entire shaft if they put effort into it. Despite their great intellect, they can be very kind or fatally cruel, depending on their moods. Some may carry lanterns to lead miners to safety, others may knock the walls to warn humans of poisonous gases, while a evil few may use their great strength and knowledge to violently knock on a section of wall so to cause a cave in to kill humans. No matter whether they are trying to hurt or help, they will always knock loudly on mine shaft walls so to either warn miners to run, or to cause rocks to fall upon people.

Some people believe that the Knockers were once British tribes that were enslaved by the Romans and made to mine against their will. Many of those people died in slavery, and it is believed that they returned as these short, stout mine faeries.
