The Ghoul

In old Arabian myths and folklore, the Ghul was said to be a living creature reincarnated from a sinful person who died unrepentant. When a person sins a great deal in life, or eats human flesh, and then dies...they may transform into a ghoul and come back to life. Their soul does not leave the body, and the corpse comes back to life as if waking up from a coma. But their rejuvenated body transforms to become very hairy and hunchbacked, their legs become like a goat's, and their head transforms into a dog head. If that wasn't enough, they wake up having amnesia of most of their past and a starving hunger for rotten meat. After waking back up as if from a coma, they climb out of their grave for air and to try to remember their past to no avail. But they do find they have the magical ability to shapeshift as well as the ability to glamor others into seeing them as something else.
They are then cursed to live as a ghoul for many years until either they die repentant and enlightened, or else rejuvenate back alive and wake up even worse than before. Sometimes, two ghouls will marry each other and give birth to all new ghouls who never were human in the first place. But these child ghouls, if a kind individual who tries to seek goodness for all, can still die and go on to a higher state of being.
